Let's hear a little bit about the driver - What's your name and where are you from?
My name is David Evers and born and raised in Oregon. Lived most of my life in the Gladstone/Clackamas area.
What got you into modifying cars and what kept you in it?
It all started in high school when I saw the older kids driving their mk2’s and rabbits and was instantly drawn to them. My graduation present was a 86 GTI from my aunt and that’s where it all started. Had a few cars after that mostly mk2’s a 16V rabbit and a couple B3 Passats. Did engine and trans swaps in almost all of them along the way. But one summer I will never forget is when I was a car show with a buddy and his dad’s friend let me drive his SLC Corrado home and I was hooked!! Once I saw that rear spoiler come up on the freeway I knew I had to have my own one day.

Tell us about your ride, what is it?
So fast forward to 2011 while visiting my in laws we pull up and what’s sitting in their neighbors driveway.. A Corrado!! I had to get the courage to knock on the door and the lady that answered said it was her sons and he might be interested in selling so I left my number. Can’t remember how long it took but he called me and we made a deal. And turns out this wasn’t just a common g60 car but a more rare automatic car which a lot of people don’t realize but is actually a different paint code then the manual cars. The paint code is LC5U (Aqua Blue Pearl) and I’ve only seen one other one local. The plan was to VR swap it right away but once I swapped the fuel pump and got it running I drove it for a while as an automatic g60. Eventually the auto trans gave out which I knew would happen so I had been gathering manual swap parts. So eventually did that and then started doing g60 upgrades and went stage 4. Ended up grenadine a charger which is why as I learned you always need to change you cog belt often. So drove it like that for a while and ended up getting board with it so it was VR swap time! Ended buying a wrecked SLC local for a great price and the engine had been rebuilt by a local shop that I knew of and had some upgrades already done. I did the swap by myself in the middle of summer after just moving into my first house that had a shop so that made it a lot easier.

Exterior Mods?
So after the swap it was finally time to take care of the exterior as most of the clear coat was gone and there were dents and dings here and there and I’ve always wanted a respray. So randomly one day my buddy was like said “let’s paint your car” which seemed like a great idea but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was gonna be happy with just a respray but my friends had other ideas which I am forever grateful for. They ended up with some wild ideas that most won’t even notice unless you are a Corrado freak like me. Shaved and smoothed a lot of parts like emblems, roof antenna, bumper side markers, rear wiper, custom door handle pockets. But my favorite is the custom decklid. Shaved the third brake light and license plate lights and cut and reformed the section underneath the spoiler so it is completely flat underneath when the spoiler comes up. Again something most people wouldn’t even notice. So after the bodywork was done it got resprayed door jambs and all in the same paint code. Added a few exterior parts at this time like a carbon fiber hood that was color matched to the car. Also added a Spoonfed tuning spoiler and wiper cowl cover that really helps clean up the engine bay. I wanted to stick with stock exterior lighting so I found a very clean set of Ecodes and all the other lights as well. I’m running Air Lift shocks and struts on V2 management.

Interior Mods?
The interior is stock blue dot that I pulled from a very low mile car so it’s still in very good shape. Swapped in a dash from a SLC but still used all the earlier inserts for the heater controls and such. I swapped the sketchy auto seatbelts to the euro manual belts. Passat glass moon roof swap and blacked out the headliner and visors.

Anything special under the hood?
We didn’t paint the engine bay at the same time as the exterior as we hadn’t pulled the engine yet. But once it was I did a few upgrades to the engine as well as a o2j transmission and shift box swap. If you haven’t done this I highly recommend it. I was able to source a polo o2j shift box so it was a direct bolt in. The engine already 262 cams with HD springs and retainers but I stepped up to TT 276 cams and different tune. New chains, guides, and a new clutch.

What are some things you've done to your car that others might not notice?
I would think just the custom body work like I was saying before. You would really have to be a Corrado nerd like me to even notice these things.

Anything else you'd like to add?
This has been a very lengthy project and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help from several of my friends and family. For now it’s done and I’m really enjoying driving it but is a project ever finished???
