The MK1 Caddy Experience

Let's hear a little bit about the driver - What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Marcelo, although I'm often called Marce. I'm from a town called Jaraíz de la Vera (Cáceres, Spain), but I've been living in Buñol (Valencia, Spain) for 15 years.

I regularly share car stuff on my @vwheelswap account.

What got you into modifying cars and what kept you in it?  First Car or First Mod/Wrenching job?
It all started with memories of my dad fixing the family car, and although I wasn't particularly interested in it back then, over the years I got the hang of it and decided to buy a car to tinker with. What keeps me going is the feeling of driving a MK1.

My first car/project was a 16V MK2 Golf, which I got from a barn in Soria. It had been sitting for many years because it had suffered a minor frontal impact and wasn't repaired, but I soon repaired and modified it, adding Schmidt wheels and suspension. A year after that, I had the opportunity to buy a MK1 Golf GTI, and that's when this illness took hold, haha. So I sold the MK2. Because MK1s are the cars that give me the greatest driving sensation. It's addictive.

The year we met was when I discovered Caddys in Wörthersee and fell in love with them, so I decided that when I returned to Spain I was going to buy one.

Today I feel guilty for having sold my first MK2, one day I will have another but it is not time yet.

Tell us about your ride, what is it?
Right now I have a small collection of VW MK1s: Golfs, Jettas, Caddys, and Sciroccos.

My last trip was with the Caddy MK1, covering 5,200 km across much of Europe. Valencia, France, Monaco, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, France again, and back home.
The week before the trip we did a race against time swap to a 1.8t Audi TT.
We had a minor issue with an rpm sensor in Austria, but it was resolved without much delay.

What are some things you've done to your car that others might not notice?
Passat 4+E knob, I think is funny.

Anything else you'd like to add?
Right now I'm planning to paint the mirrors black, improve the braking, and improve the exhaust.
