Let's hear a little bit about the driver - What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Mario Blanco Corral. Born and raised in Ciudad Juarez Chihuahua Mexico. Currently call El Paso TX home.
What got you into modifying cars and what kept you in it?
I'm not ashamed to admit I saw fast and furious at the age of 13 Jesse's Jetta blew my mind. Mexico is huge on its love for Volkswagens.
Ever since high school I have had the idea to save money and buy a Jetta. Which I did and first Vdub was a 97' MK3 Jetta GLS.
I've had the chance to own multiple Vdubs over the years. I currently own a
2003 Volkswagen Sedan, as they called the aircooled bug in Mexico until 2004,
a 1979 Rabbit, and a Mk7 Golf R.
Tell us about your ride, what is it?
My 1979 Rabbit came to my possession as the only car straight trade I've ever done. I traded a mk2 87 Golf for it. Initially i wanted to build a berg-cup inspired
car. But once I saw how clean and original the body and interior were; it made sense to aim for an original look clean car.
Exterior/ Interior Mods?

Exterior paint was done inspired by some vintage striping that came with the car as a decal. My good friend Esteban Reveles in Ciudad Juarez did a great job turning those stripes into real paint. I had the opportunity to meet Fernando from small bumpers mx to source window seals, euro bumpers, pop up windows with chrome bezels. Interior features a euro dash, Momo steering wheel and shift knob. An airlift dual tank setup in the trunk; with the rest of the interior original to the car.
Anything special under the hood?
The car came with AC from a kit that I learned was a dealer option. Was able to keep AC when it came time to complete the ALH 1.9 TDI swap. The car sits on 15 inch BBS RS - decided to keep the tried and true formula.
What are some things you've done to your car that others might not notice?
There are subtle details like the Porsche 944 door handles, the original carpet, aiming to do subtle touches.

Been a fan of the page for a long time. It's nice to have a spotlight to share a project that has been ongoing for 7 years now.
